Grannies childcare boost for economy

A study by Interflora has found that one in four parents could not go to work without grandparents looking after their children. Some 27% of grandparents help out regularly, and almost as many parents could not survive financially without their help. The older generation is often happy to look after the children, with nearly half saying they stepped in because of high nursery and childcare costs. Helen Quinn of Interflora said: “Grandparents support the average UK family more than ever and children are increasingly spending more time with them than with their own parents.”
