The Council is currently consulting the public on the removal of the 1977 Byelaw that currently prohibits cycling in 57 of our Parks and Open Spaces. This has been progressed following approval by the General Purposes Committee on 19 March 2019.
The aim is to help encourage cycling in the Borough and help improve health and air quality, which supports our Brent Borough Plan 2019-2023 and other strategic objectives.
We are consulting Brent residents and also all park users. Information on the proposal and an online questionnaire are available on our Consultation hub link below.
Officers have already arranged safety assessments for all of the parks covered by this Byelaw and identified areas where restrictions on cycling will need to remain in place. We are proposing to introduce a 5mph speed limit, and signs to identify areas where cycling will still be prohibited, such as on narrow paths, entrances, and in playgrounds or outdoor gyms to address any safety concerns.
All responses and comments to the consultation will be collated and will be considered in a report to Full Council on 16 September 2019.
Please inform the community and encourage their participation.
