Police message about scams by text and phone

I have received another message from police via SNT ward Chair, for everybody to read and act.

"The Government has sent only one text message to the public regarding new rules about staying at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Any other messages claiming to be from the UK Government are false. Criminals are able to use spoofing technology to send texts and emails impersonating organisations that you know and trust. We would remind anyone who receives an unexpected text or email asking for personal or financial details not to click on the links or attachments. Do not respond to any messages that ask for your personal or financial details. The attached

copy of the police Little Booklet of Phone Scams summarises some of the tactics that criminals use. Other police booklets on fraud and cyber scams can be downloaded here www.met.police.uk/littlemedia.
