Council tenants and leaseholders -Repairs, safety and heating

Again from Brent Council Web site for information.

Brent is working closely with contractors to make sure we can continue to deliver repairs and safety service, including fire and gas safety work. Although there may be some delays if materials aren’t immediately available, we will ensure all homes remain safe and secure. Emergency and urgent repairs will take top priority while the government’s advice on social distancing remains in force.

When visiting homes, our contractors are closely following the government’s advice on social distancing, and we urge tenants to do the same.

To report a repair or heating breakdown:

  • Call Brent Housing Management, on 020 8937 2400

Please advise us if you are self-isolating, so we can make necessary arrangements.

All non-urgent work will be planned in consultation with you for a later date.

Estate Caretaking Service

Our Estate Caretakers will continue to clean internal and external communal areas on Brent Council housing estates.

To make sure we can cover all sites we will be postponing our deep clean and window cleaning programme. Any blocks due to having a deep clean during this period will be rescheduled for later in the year.

All our staff will follow Government advice in relation to hygiene and social distancing while carrying out these essential duties.

Fire safety

During this period where households are spending more time at home, there may be an increased risk of fire. Please take extra care especially when cooking, avoid candles, smoking and other fire hazards.

Please check the heat and smoke detectors in your home every week using the push button and report any faulty detectors. Remember to also keep your front door and any communal doors are kept closed.

Paying your rent and service charges

We know that many people are facing financial difficulties because of coronavirus. If your circumstances are affected and you are concerned about paying your rent or service charges:

  •  Call your income officer on 020 8937 2730

Looking out for your neighbours

There is no time like the present to support one another. In particular, if you are worried about a vulnerable person and don’t think they have existing support:

  • Call 020 8937 6589 between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week.

Some of your neighbours may have care needs, please do keep gates and communal areas accessible so they can carry out their visits safely.

While more people including children are at home, there will be an increase in noise as people go about their day-to-day activities. We ask that everyone is considerate of each other and where possible limit noise in the evenings. If you are having any issues:

Access to your home for gas safety checks

Carrying out vital gas servicing and safety checks is still extremely important at this time. These services allow us to maintain high standards of safety for you and your family.

We will contact you in advance of our visit. Please let us know if you are self-isolating or shielding and we can arrange a more suitable date in the future to accommodate you.

We will make sure your home remains safe and secure throughout any visit. Our contractors will wear protective clothing, follow high standards of cleanliness and observe social distancing at all times.
