BW BCU Commander’s weekly report is below:
Dear Partners,
Thank you for continuing to play your part in protecting yourselves, your families and your communities from Coronavirus. Rates continue to decrease because of our collective efforts, however, even with this reduction, infection rates remain high. This decline needs to continue to enable us to emerge from lockdown and by following the rules.
Terrorism threat level lowered to Substantial
Britain’s terrorism threat level has dropped from “severe” to “substantial” after fewer attacks in Europe. Threat levels are designed to give a broad indication of the likelihood of a terrorist attack. Substantial means an attack is likely, whereas the previous threat level of severe meant an attack was “highly likely.” Vigilance is vital regardless of the current national threat level and sharing levels with the public keeps everyone informed. It explains the context for various security measures which we may encounter in our daily lives.

Man jailed after stabbing officer in face with a pen during incident in Barnet
We have released Body Worn Video of one of our officers being stabbed in the face with a pen during an incident in Edgware last August. Officers were called by a resident in Manor Park Crescent, Edgware on Sunday 16th August 2020. Adrian Popa was subject to bail conditions that prohibited him from being in the area and was seen in a back garden. Popa launched a ferocious attack on the officer who had apprehended him, stabbing her in the face multiple times with a pen and threatening to kill her. Adrian Popa, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, having earlier pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and making threats to kill. He received three years and 10 months custodial sentence for the threats to kill and 15 months for ABH, to run concurrently. PC Dobbs is doing well and has since returned to work. This serves as a reminder of the risk our officers face every day. We will pursue anyone who attacks our colleagues. See full details here.
