Adult Social Care and Public health, Leisure and Culture

Adult Social Care has now been refocused to meet urgent need and support people who are largely self isolating at home.
We are working with Brent Customer Services to ensure that anyone with additional needs can be responded to:
  • The ASC wellbeing line is live and receiving calls, which is a dedicated team set up to respond to enquiries around vulnerable people as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, and can support people who are self-isolating or otherwise in need and who do not have anyone else who can support them to access food, medication, support around social isolation or care
  • We have created a council wide system and training for staff to be able to make contact with the individuals on the NHS shielding list as well as those people who are calling the wellbeing line, and we will check their needs as soon as we receive the list from central government
  • We have put in place a service, working with the Gateway service, to meet any needs identified relating to social isolation, shopping and medication for those without any family or community support.
  • Most social work staff are working from home and are contacting all service users who have refused care or who can no longer attend day care to check on them and put in place a risk plan if necessary
  • Most commissioning staff are also working from home, and are contacting all of our care providers regularly to ensure that we are doing whatever we can to maintain social care provision through this difficult time.  We have had a delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is being distributed to care providers on Friday 27 March 2020.
  • We have opened additional step down facilities at Peel Road and at Visram House to support hospital discharges or accommodating people who cannot remain in their own homes and who have confirmed cases covid-19
  • Most external day centres have now closed and the councils two day centres have also Both John Billam and New Millennium day centres  - this is the result of significant reductions in demand as people self isolate.
Public health and leisure and culture
  • The Council’s Libraries and Leisure Centres are closed.
  • Public Health commissioned services (substance misuse, health visiting, sexual health) are operating as prioritised services avoiding face to face contact where possible.  Pressures due to staff absence and redeployment into acute settings are beginning to be felt
  • The Council’s Public Health team is providing infection control and prevention advice to local care agencies and others on a prioritised basis.
