Food Delivery Service update

The  Brent council’s food delivery service commenced operation on 28 March 2020. The service is currently delivering around 600 boxes a day, 6 days a week. The cost of food is significant and there is also a large resource requirement to run the service – currently around 60 staff are involved working from Bridge Park leisure centre.

There are a range of other options for accessing food including:
  1. Those who are on the NHS shielding list should be being supported by the Government food delivery service (except where there are special dietary requirements)
  2. Those who can afford to pay for food but cannot get to the shops can be linked with a volunteer who can help with shopping. Team will be also taking part in a pilot scheme which will link those who can afford to pay and are online with priority supermarket delivery slots
Council is working with Sufra to re-instate their referral process but will continue to manage food purchasing and delivery for food bank clients until they are able to manage demand

Team will not stop food deliveries for those who are in need but will use our Hubs team to work with them to provide access to relevant benefits and wider support.
